The Lottery Is Racist?!
The laundry list of racist things in America has grown once again. We have been told that table manners, jogging, timeliness, museums, and even proper grammar is racist.
Now, CNN is reporting that the Powerball lottery system is racist, because it “unfairly targets poor black and brown communities.” This report comes right after the largest jackpot in Powerball history was won, where a lucky winner from California scored a $2.04 billion dollar payout. But according to CNN, “experts” say that state lotteries disproportionately sell tickets to communities made up of black and brown people.
No specific research or data was provided to explain exactly how the lottery is aggressively marketed to specific demographic groups, but the mere allegation of racism makes it so in the eyes of the liberal media. Even if it is true that there is a disproportionate number of black and brown Americans buying lottery tickets, that doesn’t make the lottery itself, or it’s marketing, racist.
When the word “racism” is thrown around so cavalierly and frequently, actual racism is diminished. It’s like the tale of Chicken Little screaming that the sky is falling. When you shout racism about everything, no one will believe you. It also makes it harder for people to care when you try to call out actual racism.
