A study published by Cambridge University Press in 2022 found that 95% of the United States Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee members have conflicts of interest (COI), including ties to major pharmaceutical and food corporations.

“Our analysis found that 95% of the committee members had COI with the food, and/or pharmaceutical industries and that particular actors, including Kellogg, Abbott, Kraft, Mead Johnson, General Mills, Dannon, and the International Life Sciences had connections with multiple members. Research funding and membership of an advisory/executive board jointly accounted for more than 60% of the total number of COI documented.”

The United States Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee members consist of scientific experts in nutrition and medicine, who are asked to work in a manner conducive to the health of all Americans — not for the wealth of the mega-corporations who may be lobbying for government support. There are a number of “health” foods that are marketed to consumers as “organic” but contain processed gains and harmful chemicals that are not regulated by the FDA.

The public concern regarding this study’s findings, is that members of the advisory committee may act in a partisan way, giving a stamp of approval to certain brands or food types that otherwise would not have been recommended.

Recently, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended medicine and surgical procedures to treat obesity in children — rather than sticking to the tried and true method of eating healthy, clean foods and exercising regularly. Americans have been sold on big dharma’s profit model: everything can be treated with medicine, so eat whatever you want. It is clear that the government bureaucrats are compromised, because there is a better way to living a healthy life.
