Where Liberty Thrives, Jews Thrive.
But Where liberty is under siege, Jews will inevitably be, too.
-Bari Weiss-
May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and it’s impossible to ignore the disconnect between Jewish interests and politics. The bottom line is that American Jews are largely liberal, and The New York Post describes this loyalty as a “reliable constituency”. But, the left has done very little to enhance the lives of Jews domestically or abroad and Jewish mindsets must change to preserve Jewish faith and culture, as well as the sanctity of the nation of Israel.
When analyzing why Jews support liberal policies, it is necessary to revisit the early 20th century. Lee Bressler, host of The Lee Show (Podcast) provides a thorough and thoughtful explanation:
“Many Jewish immigrants arrived in the early 20th century and worked in factories… Many American Jews were involved with the socialist left and they liked Roosevelt’s New Deal programs aimed at helping the poor.” Bressler continues by observing that, “Support for the liberals dwindled over time and softened significantly in the late 1960s, as many Jews were opposed to programs such as affirmative action. Many Jews saw themselves as classical liberals, favoring equality of opportunity and not equality of outcome.”
Given that history, it’s important to note that the tides are turning due to antisemitism running rampant on the left. Recently, former President Trump took a unique approach to Middle Eastern policy related to Israel by fostering peace and support. Notably, it was former President Trump who moved the United States embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. He also brokered the historic Abraham Accord, essentially stabilizing peace between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan.
Jews are people who value family, religion, history, and culture. They have traditional values. Hopefully, more Jews wake up to the reality of conservatism and liberty because it is necessary for their ability to thrive as a people.
