Did you hear the exciting news?!
Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced in a Tweet on Jan 5, 2022, that the popular social media app will be testing new feed views with a full launch of these experiences expected to happen “within the first half of this year.”
The new feed views will include 3 options – Home, Favorites, and Following!
The ” Following ” feed is the most anticipated, and one many users have been asking for since they took it away in 2016 is the “Following” feed. They’re bringing back the chronological order, BABBBY! This will be what we all used to be familiar with; all the accounts you follow + posts will be shown in order of the time they were posted! So no more opening Instagram just to see a post from 3 days ago at the top of your feed!
One that I am looking forward to is the “Favorites” feed. Think of narrowing down all the people you follow to a smaller list curated by you that includes all your best friends, family, favorite content creators/ bloggers, etc.
And lastly is the “Home” feed. This will be similar to what you know of Instagram today! After reading several articles about this, I think you can expect the “Home” feed to eventually evolve into an extension of the explore page. An easily scroll-able feed curated with what the algorithm deems you to find enjoyable… AKA whatever can keep users on the app longer.
The changes you are going to see on Instagram’s user experience will probably remind you of TikTok because of the similarities.
I’m not sure what to expect from this change, but as a creator and advocate for the outdoors, it seems like making your way onto people’s “Favorite” feed will be a good way to stay engaged with loyal followers!
