College is designed to present the opportunity to live alongside and influence the next generation of leaders and changemakers of the country. Unfortunately, at this moment, this isn’t the case; most colleges have taken a side politically and do everything in their power to assist liberal students and punish conservative students.
For this reason, it can be daunting to express your opinion as a free-thinker on a college campus. Furthermore, the influx of liberal professors and actions of hate towards conservative students do not make this any easier. However, consider the following actions as ways to best share your ideas and create meaningful change on campus.
First, speak up in your classes. You have a voice for a reason and are not paying tens of thousands of dollars to stay silent. There are most likely others in the class who are thinking and wondering the same thing as you. If you hear a professor say something that doesn’t align with your core beliefs, it’s your right to say something or at least question the reasons behind their teachings.
Additionally, work to have conversations with the people around you. It’s inevitable that you’ll meet people of differing beliefs, so take the time to first work to understand their perspective before countering it.
Lastly, strive to meet like-minded students. Once you can build a network of peers with mutual interests and goals, it’ll be much easier to lobby for the change you wish to see. I recommend meeting fellow conservatives by attending your local TPUSA chapter and working to create relationships with the people in them.
