A group of students on spring break were charged with one count of grand theft and mischief for vandalizing the Charlie Kirk Way street stop sign in Gulf County, Florida, which was retained by local law enforcement.

According to WKRG News, the students, who attend Northwest Missouri State University, stole the sign on March 5 at midnight, leaving the intersection without a stop sign for nearly half a day. They were identified by Gulf County Sheriff’s Office after two days of allegedly committing the crimes.

“About noon the next day, or at least a period of about 12 hours, there was no stop sign at that very dangerous intersection,” Gulf County Sheriff Mike Harrison said. “We worked well with the campus police where all of these students were going to school.”

The sheriff further stated that the five students accused will be extradited back to Gulf County “at some point” to face charges.
