Wanting to secure our southern border should not be a topic of debate. We all have front doors with locks, why can’t we expect our own country to have the same? While the media has been focused on COVID-19, a big issue has been brewing on our southern border. The number of individuals in family units encountered by the Border Patrol jumped from about 7,000 in January to over 50,000 in June, while the monthly number of unaccompanied minors went from 5,600 to over 15,000 during that period.
Why are we not hearing more about this? While we’re being forced to wear masks and be vaccinated, illegal migrants (who may or may not be traveling with COVID) are making their way across our border and into various different cities. Some say that this rise of migrants is unprecedented, but some say that it’s due to the Left’s open acceptance of immigrants and harsh criticisms of the way the right has handled the border crisis in the past. What’s ironic is that the same people who claim a border wall is racist, are the same people who live within gated communities. What’s the difference between the two?
In no way am I saying we shouldn’t be allowing immigrants to come into our country. I’m all for immigration, but I stand firm against illegal immigration, especially during an era where our country is in shambles. Border security needs to be enhanced and become a priority because this is getting out of hand. It’s possible to make sure we have a fair and just immigration system at play, while at the same time deter those from doing it illegally. We’re getting to a point where legal citizens will be losing jobs for not being vaccinated, while unvaccinated illegal immigrants are getting away with crossing our border. This is not okay.
