Just days following the anniversary of Charlie Kirk’s death, a memorial statue and sign installed outside of the Turning Point USA headquarters were spray painted red in mockery of Kirk’s assassination.
The sculptor of the statue, Quintin McCann, produced the statue in the likeness of Kirk throwing baseball hats into a crowd while wearing a “FREEDOM” T-shirt and a necklace with a cross pendant. The statue was unveiled to the public September 10th on the anniversary of Kirk’s passing. It was vandalized with red spray paint which was painted over the statue’s torso, neck, shoulderblade, face, and left hand areas.
The sign features a photo of Kirk whose face was crossed out with red paint. Accompanying this image is the statement “May Charlie be received into the merciful arms of Jesus, our loving savior,” with the word “Jesus” being marked out as well with the word “Satan” apparently replacing it.
The Phoenix Police Department is investigating the vandalization of the statue and sign.
According to AZ Central, “while passersby initially took photos of the vandalized sign and statue, police later blocked off the scene with caution tape. By 1:15 p.m., the sign was down and the statue was behind tarps and under a tent. American flags were added to the posts holding up caution tape.”
The statue and sign have been restored since the initial acts of vandalism.
TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk responded Sunday to this incident on X, stating, in part, that “every attempt to tear down what Charlie built makes us root deeper and work even harder.”
