At some point over the past decade, our entire public discourse has devolved into all politics, all the time – and it’s tearing us apart. Of course, I’m a conservative. Of course, I’m unafraid to defend what I believe, but as we go into the holiday season, I can’t help but think about how America’s obsession with politics is politicizing, well, EVERYTHING. But I have an answer to that – LEAVE THE POLITICS ALONE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.

Seriously. Time after time, I get social media messages from people who have strained relationships with mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, even friends from grade school, all because of political disagreements. Even the lunatics of the Left will urge their followers this time of year to completely cut off their “evil” conservative relatives.

Ask yourself: does this get us all anywhere? Does this bring America closer together? I’m not saying to abandon your beliefs. I’m not saying to go back into some kind of conservative closet. What I’m saying is that, perhaps this holiday season, we could all give it a break and be thankful for one another.

If this is demoralizing for you, I promise: you can go right back to hating one another on Twitter after the New Year!
