Frontlines TPUSA reporter Jonathan Choe covered citywide protests in Seattle on May 23, which focused on the protection of trans rights within the US.

According to The Seattle Times, the protests centered around a march that was “organized by the Mutual Aid Network for Trans and Intersex Individuals in Seattle and the Gender Equity Movement.” These were organized “after the Seattle LGBTQ Commission announced Monday it had written a letter asking city leaders to do more to help transgender and gender-nonconforming people, including those coming to Seattle to escape threats elsewhere.”

Some of these protests, Frontlines noted, reached Seattle’s city hall, where protesters addressed Mayor Katie Wilson, demanding a state of emergency to be declared in order to further protect trans-identifying people who are leaving other states for Washington, finding the policies of President Trump on transgenderism endangering them.

At one point during his coverage, one protester, in the company of others who were also harassing the reporter, shouted slurs at ethnic slurs at Choe: “You’re not an American citizen. Go back to Taiwan you piece of sh*t,” the woman yelled at him.

Some tried preventing Choe from accessing an area in which a protest was taking place. However, he did have an exchange with an activist who was in favor of non-violence and dialogue with those of differing views.
