This week at a virtual event for the Richard Nixon Foundation, the co-founder of PayPal and early Facebook investor, Peter Thiel, criticized Apple and Google for their close ties and appeasement of communist China.
Thiel criticized Google for its work with the CCP on artificial intelligence, stating, “since everything in China is a civilian-military fusion, Google effectively worked with the Chinese military, not with the American military… They figured they might as well give the technology out the front door, because if they didn’t give it – it would get stolen anyway.”
As for Apple, Thiel called for the US to put massive pressure on the company, later saying: ″Apple is probably the one that’s structurally a real problem because the whole iPhone supply chain gets made from China… Apple is one that has real synergies with China.”
Overall, I’m comforted knowing we have leaders in that industry like Peter Thiel who see the dangers of aligning with China and understand what’s happening here at home with the left’s hypocrisy. I believe this is the way forward.
