OpenAI is rolling out a new search engine platform titled ChatGPT Atlas, designed to be an artificial intelligence alternative to traditional search engines like Google.

Launched Tuesday, ChatGPT Atlas will combine the capacities of the popular AI service with a unique search engine.

“With Atlas, ChatGPT can come with you anywhere across the web—helping you in the window right where you are, understanding what you’re trying to do, and completing tasks for you, all without copying and pasting or leaving the page,” the platform stated Tuesday in a news release. “Your ChatGPT memory is built in, so conversations can draw on past chats and details to help you get new things done.”

ChatGPT Atlas seeks to aid the memories of its users while browsing websites with optional “browser memories.”

“Browser memories let ChatGPT remember context from the sites you visit and bring that context back when you need it,” OpenAI said.

The platform will also have filters that parents may put in place for children, along with an agent mode that enables users to have the program manage personal tasks.

“Imagine you’re planning a dinner party and you have a recipe in mind. You can give the recipe to ChatGPT and ask it to find a grocery store, add all the ingredients to a cart, and order them to your house,” the platform said of its agent mode.

“We think that AI represents a rare once-a-decade opportunity to rethink what a browser can be about,” OpenAI Founder Sam Altman stated during a livestream announcing ChatGPT Atlas’s launch.

The White House has consistently expressed support for the utilization of artificial intelligence and ensuring the US treats it responsibly while not restricting its development.
