A New York man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly claiming he planned to use firebombs to attack federal agents at a “No Kings” protest.
54-year-old David Cox is facing terrorism-related charges after he reportedly told a stranger at a gas station Friday night that he had weapons in his car and planned to “fight ICE agents” at a rally in Manhattan. The witness reported the threat to police after Cox left, prompting the NYPD to locate his vehicle using a license plate reader. Officers later stopped Cox, though no weapons were found inside his car.
Cox has been charged with making a terrorist threat, filing a false report of terrorism, and making a threat of mass harm, according to the New York Post.
The threat came as “No Kings” protests were held nationwide on Saturday, with demonstrators rallying against President Donald Trump and his administration’s policies. In Manhattan, tens of thousands of protesters filled the streets carrying signs labeling Trump a “king,” “fascist,” and “nazi,” among other pejoratives. Some demonstrators compared ICE agents to members of the Ku Klux Klan.
Protesters also displayed a banner reading “ALL NAZIS GO TO HELL” and chanted slogans including “This is what democracy looks like.”
Other signs applauded figures such as Gavin Newsom, Zohran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, depicting their faces with the word “Antifa” written across them. This comes as Trump signed an executive order last month designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, and ordering it be treated as a “militant, anarchist enterprise.”
