Independence Public Schools in Independence, Missouri, is the newest addition to Turning Point USA’s School Board Watchlist. The district announced that its goal was to be “advocates for equity in Missouri Public Schools.” On their website, they outright condemn charter schools. They claim that public schools are a better option, saying that “the policies and practices that permit charter schools to exist with less oversight and accountability mean many are not shining examples of ‘school choice,’ but are the root of social injustice because they create an environment where students of the greatest need are further marginalized.”
The district released this statement while a district-wide mandate is still in place. By denouncing charter schools as “racist,” they are putting down any child or family that decides that a charter school is a better option for them.
The social justice and diversity narrative keeps escalating, and the left names something new as “racist” every day. Parents and families should not feel ashamed for choosing what is best for their children. Perhaps Independence Public Schools is seeing the repercussions of their authoritarian COVID response and feel the need to attack their competitor.
