This past Sunday, at the new SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA, there was an NFC title game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. This is already not making sense because over 65,000 people were packed in this area, despite the fact that there are multiple restrictions across the state due to a “deadly pandemic.” After the game, Magic Johnson took to social media to share pictures of his experience at the game.
In these images, you will find California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, completely maskless, having the time of their life. Once posted, the outrage began. Gov. Newsom and Mayor Garcetti are both responsible for all the COVID rules set in place. California’s universal mask mandate requires residents to wear face coverings in all indoor public spaces and in common areas of outdoor “mega-events” with 5,000 or more people, regardless of vaccination status. Los Angeles County also requires all people attending large indoor and outdoor events to wear masks, except when eating and drinking. Yet once again, we see that the “rules for thee and not for me” behavior continues.
What’s frustrating everyone the most is obvious… nothing makes sense. Do you mean to tell me that over 60k people can party together for a sports event, but kids have to wear a face mask in school because of this deadly virus? If it’s so deadly, why are we playing football? Why aren’t public officials following their own rules if it’s so deadly?
It’s apparent Californians have had enough. These representatives do not care about their constituents. If they did, they would be following their own rules. I’m not sure what’s going to happen from this, but I doubt Gov. Newsom and Mayor Garcetti will be able to live this one down. It’s hypocrisy at its finest.
