Keep the green in your closet this year–the annual Saint Patrick’s Day festivities in New York City are likely not happening, thanks to the power of the governor’s office in New York.

Although New York City has been steadily reopening for the past several weeks, allowing for limited capacity with indoor dining and a reopening of schools and businesses, the “concern” associated with the St. Patrick’s Day festivities led Governor Cuomo to keep strict regulations in place the state to discourage people from gathering through March 22, after the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

After the 22nd, things are (somewhat) open for business (for New York at least), allowing for residential gatherings of up to 25 people outdoors and indoor residential gatherings up to (WOW!) 10 people to reduce the continued risk of spread.

At some point, New Yorkers and Americans deserve the opportunity to make their own decisions about whether or not they want to celebrate a particular holiday or gather with friends and family. I don’t know who Governor Cuomo thinks died to make him King, but he is not the ultimate authority on what people can or cannot do with their own lives.

Speaking of New York City, I will be speaking to our TPUSA Chapters on March 22nd! I can’t wait to see you all in the Big Apple!
