Saying black lives matter should be a statement of fact. They do matter. They matter tremendously.

Black Lives Matter, INC. is a completely different story.  Legally speaking, Black Lives Matter is a Delaware for-profit corporation. It is not a charity.  They spend a significant amount of their raised money on corporate travel and the campaigns of white politicians. White politicians; sounds crazy right? As a for-profit business, this is totally fine! They are not bound by specific laws or guidelines that charities my closely follow.

Even more disturbing is that there seems to be little regard for the actual lives the of which they reference in their name. You haven’t seen Black Lives Matter, INC making donations to minority owned businesses impacted by COVID. There is no mention of Black Lives Matter, INC educating black children who are left without proper schooling during the pandemic.

There is a Black Lives Matter Foundation. It is based in California and appears to do great work for the black community.  Unfortunately, they are not as well funded and their work often goes unnoticed and funds meant for them after funneled to the Delaware Corporation.

If you want to make a donation to the correct charity, which also has the perk of being tax deductible, the group must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with the IRS. So, be sure to check the IRS website to make sure the organization is actually a nonprofit and that they are in good standing.
