An employee at Trinity College in Connecticut forcibly took down American flag with the gadsden symbol, and an American flag featuring red, blue, and green lines, which represent support for firefighters, police, and military, while leaving transgender flags untouched. The flags were hung outside a dorm where the students frequently saw BLM, pride, and transgender flags displayed.
The two students who hung the America flags, Finn McCole and Lucas Turco, felt that they should be able to present their personal beliefs, given that other students had the freedom to do so — regardless of whether or not those points of view were offensive.
The school administrator sent to remove the flags originally claimed that there was a “safety concern,” however did not act to remove other flags hung at that time. She then admitted in a video filmed by one of the students that the flags were “offensive.”
The woman can be seen attempting to confiscate the two flags with little explanation as to why, while the students object to the seizure of their private property.
“We then spoke with the Dean who informed us that this decision was not based on the “content” of the flags, the school handbook does not allow for any flags to be hung outside of students’ dorms.
Meanwhile, multiple flags representing more “acceptable” content have been allowed to fly for several months and have obviously never been forcibly removed. These flags continue to fly.“
Following the incident, the two students had a meeting with the Dean of the college, who explained that there would be an email sent out the following week informing students that they would need to remove all flags from the dorm.
“The deans said our flags were taken down because some students were offended by them. In my opinion anyone could be offended by anything and so it is completely subjective, thus deeming it not a valid reason to take our flags down.”
Lucas Turco
This email was sent to all students and staff at the college, however no other flags were forcibly removed in the same manner. The two students appeared on ‘Jesse Watters Primetime’ to explain the incident, and express their opinions regarding administration and faculty choosing to target their flags specifically.
“McCole said the dean’s office later seemed ‘very open to apologizing’ for the incident, but added that their purported remorse doesn’t change the fact their office tried to forcibly remove patriotic symbols in what was seen as hypocritical selective enforcement of rules.”

McCole and Turco expressed disappointment in their administrators for the clear bias in what views and beliefs could be represented, and more, that traditional American symbols were not welcome in a public space. This however is the state of college campuses, left-wing ideas are welcomed and promoted, while any conservative values are immediately met with hostility and intimidation.
