America is losing all common sense. The issue of transgender athletes participating in girl’s sports is the prime example.

Like many of you, I was very active in high school sports. I was from a smaller school in the region, so I was actually asked to be on the Varsity soccer and track team when I was still in middle school in 8th grade.

I played school and travel soccer, sprinted and pole vaulted in Track & Field, and my friend and I were even the first two girls to ever participate in our region’s football weightlifting championship.

That being said, let’s acknowledge some basic truths that should NOT be difficult to accept:

I was often placed as the anchor in the 4×100 and 4×400 relay, meaning when we were preparing for that race, I was the fastest girl on the team for that distance. The hard fact? My relay teammates and I were the four fastest girls from our school, but an average (or honestly, even sucky and slow) boy runner still would cream us if we raced.

Our girls soccer team would only jokingly and RARELY go against the boys in a light scrimmage during practice. They were intentionally light and technique-focused scrimmages for a good reason. The hard fact? If the boys went full force against us, we would lose badly. If they used full physical force, we would probably get hurt.

When my friend and I competed in the football weight lifting competition, we did so because we were dedicated to weight training, and definitely two of the top lifters of all the girls. But when we competed against the men, even when I squated 205 pounds, out of hundreds of competitors, I still only beat one short, scrawny boy with legs half the thickness of mine.

As a young woman, I put time, energy, and plenty of heart into my training for all sports. Training was hard, and losing was tough, but it was one thing to lose in a fair competition to a girl who clearly deserved to win.

I can’t imagine knowing a fully-developed boy who recently transitioned into a girl on paper being able to compete and replace me for a spot in the finals, a place in the podium, or even an opportunity or a scholarship.

What the Biden Administration is doing to young women across America is shameful, and there is a far better way to be respectful of the LGBTQ community without completely shutting down women’s empowerment in sports and physical competition.
