Over the weekend, I was in a diner in Washington DC when I was accosted by a man who made a scene over having to sit physically close to me, loudly asking the waitress for a place to sit that was further away from me. He told the waitress he was uncomfortable sitting near me because of my Turning Point USA “Big Gov Sucks” hat. He then asked the waitress for a seat away from me.

After asking this man to explain his behavior, he proudly explained he doesn’t believe I, or anyone associated with me or Turning Point USA, should be welcome in “polite society.” I began recording the conversation out of basic safety concerns and was able to have him confirm this statement on camera. I asked him if I really should not be allowed in polite society and his reply was, “absolutely not.”

I tried to explain my beliefs and have a polite and civil conversation with the man, but he resorted to personal attacks and inaccurate claims about Turning Point USA. He then took the conversation to gun control and the Second Amendment, claiming men who carry firearms are really showing “weakness,” “personal insecurity,” and are members of the “small penis gun club.” I immediately called him out for the disgusting personal and sexual turn he had taken.

Why must the left make everything about sex? They have become obsessed with sexualizing our children in the classroom, shoving their alphabet mafia down our throats in all aspects of society, and now they must connect sex to the Second Amendment? There’s something to be said about how deranged their behavior has become. Needless to say, as the discussion became more inappropriate, I became uncomfortable. I’m glad I caught this part on camera.

It is sad that the left has become so extreme that they can’t respectfully sit next to someone they politically disagree with. Conservatives are constantly being threatened in their homes, harassed in public places, and shunned from their places of work. Many times these situations with extreme leftists escalate into unsafe situations.

I am grateful that this was just an exchange of words and did not escalate into anything more, but in America, everyone should be able to eat a meal at a diner in our nation’s Capital without being harassed for political beliefs. The man I encountered today was just one example of a conservative being harassed by a “tolerant” leftist while just trying to go about their day, but this brief incident is indicative of a greater and more dangerous trend: totalitarianism is on the rise in America’s political Left.
