If you’ve looked at a lot of Leftist commentators or the mainstream media in the wake of Kyle Rittenhouse’s acquittal, you’ll notice a common refrain: “If he was Black, he’d go to prison for life!” Well, like a lot of Leftist narratives, that’s not entirely true. In fact, a young Black man was just acquitted of murder in a self-defense case not too dissimilar to Rittenhouse’s.

Breitbart’s Second Amendment reporter AWR Hawkins has the scoop:

“A.J.” Coffee IV was acquitted by a jury of the various murder charges; charges which date back to “a 2017 fire fight between a Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactical team and Coffee IV at his home in the 4500 block of 35th Avenue.” Coffee claimed shot at the officers but told the court he did so in self-defense. His girlfriend, 21-year-old Alteria Woods, died after being shot ten times by a SWAT officer during the raid.

Coffee testified he thought he was being robbed when SWAT began making entry during the 2017 raid. The officers allegedly broke out a rear window then “[used] a pole to detonate a flash bang.” Coffee believed the pole was rifle and says he then shot through the open window to defend himself.

So there you have it, another narrative destroyed. As a Black man and a staunch Second Amendment defender, what’s most annoying about the Left in cases like this is that they seem to be determined to make Blacks think that gun rights are not for us. I’m glad that cases like this prove otherwise – and poke yet another hole in the Left’s narrative.
