Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to sign a mineral deal with the US that could lead to a ceasefire in the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Last Friday, President Zelenskyy was accused by the White House of being confrontational and disrespectful as he discussed the situation of his country with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance during a preliminary press hearing in the Oval Office.

The chaotic meeting prompted his early dismissal from the White House and ultimately the failure of signing a mineral deal.

The news about the expected mineral deal signing comes from Steve Witkoff, special envoy in the Trump administration. According to Fox News, Witkoff admitted some degree of uncertainty about a signed deal:

“I think Zelenskyy has offered to sign it, and we’ll see if he follows through,” he said.

Witkoff stated that Zelenskyy has a “path back” to the White House after an apology letter sent to President Trump. The Ukrainian President’s commitment to peace was expressed in the letter, which matches Trump’s agenda, according to Witkoff:

”That’s ultimately the goal here. President Trump is an outcome-oriented man. He wants a good outcome, and a good outcome is peace. No more deaths and a better world.”

Prior to sending a letter to President Trump, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude toward the US for its aid during the war in a post on X.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed that the US has stopped intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

A meeting in Saudi Arabia is being planned between American and Ukrainian officials to potentially negotiate a peace and ceasefire deal between Ukraine and Russia. The meeting is speculated to take place next week.
