SUNY Brockport College’s latest keynote speaker has a distinguished career—as a violent criminal and convicted cop-killer.

Anthony Bottom, aka “Jalil Muntaqim,” killed two NY City police officers in 1971, according to a report by Fox News. Bottom was denied parole nine times but was finally released on parole in 2020 under the governorship of disgraced Andrew Cuomo.

To SUNY Brockport’s further shame, the administration’s introduction of its “distinguished guest” completely erased Bottom’s slayings when introducing him for the “Excellence in Diversity” speech. Plain and simple, Bottom was a gang member and a domestic terrorist. Bottom affiliated himself with the Black Liberation Army—responsible for many instances of destruction of property, assaults, and the murder of ten police officers.

SUNY Brockport’s obsession with “diversity” has blinded them to the violence inflicted upon countless innocent lives and fatal attacks towards our nation’s heroes in blue—many of whom are also black!

In a twist that will surely not age well, Brockport president Heidi Macpherson said that the opportunity for Bottom to address the student body is an exercise of “free speech.”

What a tepid rejoinder. Macpherson hides behind greater values than the ones she truly holds, using free speech as a get-out-of-jail-free card to give license to such an outrageous invitation.

That’s how you know the radical left is unfamiliar with true American values. Macpherson cites “freedom of speech” when she really means “freedom from responsibility.” This is the opposite of the conservative value of free speech. Free speech is a license to say what you mean and be responsible for your beliefs. Macpherson is a coward. If she truly believed in free speech, then I’d look forward to her invitation to any of our TPUSA activists to give the following address.

I won’t hold my breath.

TPUSA’s student activists are the first to say that true excellence comes from personal responsibility, freedom of speech, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government.

TPUSA National Field Representative of the Great Lakes and Snowbelt territories, Jack Rafferty, said in a statement:

The president of SUNI Brockport should consider a deep and personal reflection on this topic. The fact that she has no problem citing “free speech” as an excuse to have a convicted cop-killer on campus is so disappointing. After the student senate originally denied the TPUSA chapter to get approved, some mentioned that there were concerns over “right-wing conspiracy” and “white supremacist ideology.” We all know this is nonsense. Our group strongly advocates for free speech, and when you have left-wing administrators denying our group for loving America and cherishing American values, but they’re letting a violent criminal come on campus because of “free speech,” that simply does not work that way. It sounds more like excuses to be pushing a radical CRT agenda, anti-police rhetoric, and to promote harmful woke values. They don’t really believe in free speech. Nobody should be listening to this nonsense.”

Garbage in, garbage out at SUNY Brockport. One thing is certain: TPUSA will proudly stand behind our brave men and women in blue who selflessly put their lives on the line to protect and serve the United States of America. At TPUSA, free speech means the freedom to celebrate what makes America truly great!
