A group of protesters, most of whom were more or less, and deliberately, nude, gathered in Portland, Oregon, this weekend to demonstrate against National Guard troops being deployed to the city to protect ICE and other federal officers and property.
The protest was a “die-in” demonstration because, at one point, participants stopped on the Burnside Bridge and laid down on the pavement, acting as if they were dead.
World Naked Bike Ride, an organization focused on climate change that typically protests during the summer, assembled on Sunday in an emergency edition of their protest. The protest ended at an ICE facility in Portland.
“We’re here today because we strongly believe that we do not need federal troops in Portland or in Oregon at all,” a protester told Fox 12.
Several attendees remarked that the protest was “fun” and exhilarating for them, according to Fox 12.
One protester said the impact of this protest is greater than that of the organization’s prior and regular-themed protests.
“This has more impact. We’re doing it for something bigger than just freedom of expression,” the protester said. “We’re doing it for human rights.”
Of late, Portland has become controversial due to the city’s anti-ICE protests featuring the presence of antifa. President Trump forthwith deployed 200 members of the Oregon National Guard to the city.
“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” he posted to Truth Social on September 27.
The National Guard awaits deployment due to a judge temporarily blocking the White House order. An appeals court ruling will decide the status of their deployment.
