A nonprofit legal group is suing the Biden Administration over the $500 Billion student loan forgiveness executive order. The Pacific Legal Foundation, which stated “Congress did not authorize the executive branch to unilaterally cancel student debt. It’s flagrantly illegal for the executive branch to create a $500 billion program by press release, and without statutory authority or even the basic notice and comment procedure for new regulations.” This lawsuit was filed in the US District Court of Indiana.

Flashback to the day the administration decided to cancel $10,000 of student debt per person, this move was justified because of the HEROS Act which gave aid to Iraq War Veterans and their families. The HEROS Act specified that they could relieve the loans to ease the strain on individuals during a national emergency or crisis.

Additionally, President Biden recently declared that the pandemic “is over,” which is odd, considering the student loan relief was passed solely on the widely accepted belief that the emergency was ongoing.

Senior Attorney for the Pacific Legal Foundation stated:

“Loan cancellation will make Americans more divided, as those who paid their loans — or never went to college — will have good reason to think that we no longer have a government of, by, and for the people.”

What are your thoughts on this lawsuit, do they have a case?
