Famous astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has found himself at the center of a social media storm following his comments critiquing the belief that sex and gender are binary. The viral video of deGrasse Tyson’s remarks on X (formerly known as Twitter) has ignited a number of activists to accuse him of disregarding basic scientific truths.
In the video, deGrasse Tyson challenges the notion that chromosomes exclusively determine a person’s gender.
“My point is apparently the XX/XY chromosomes are insufficient,” deGrasse Tyson claims. “Because when we wake up in the morning, we exaggerate whatever feature we want to portray the gender of our choice. Either the one you’re assigned, the one you choose to be, whatever it is.”
Towards the conclusion of the video, deGrasse Tyson addresses his critics by questioning their motivation in disagreeing with trans-identifying individuals.
“Why do you care,” he questions, raising his voice. “What business is it of yours to require that I fulfill your inability to think of gender on a spectrum?”
Social media users were quick to respond to deGrasse Tyson’s absurd claims that contradict basic biology. De-transitioner and activist Chloe Cole offered a rebuttal to deGrasse Tyson’s video, expressing her perspective on how these transgender talking points have a drastic impact on confused children.
“How about we stop confusing human biology with cosmetics?” Cole stated. “It’s my business because you’re using 1950s gender stereotypes to justify an ideology that leads to sterilization and mastectomies of 15-year-old girls who just don’t fit in.”
DeGrasse Tyson’s comments are part of a broader problem within the scientific community of scientists who act as representatives of the community as a whole. Critics of deGrasse Tyson have long pointed out his arrogance and the ways he acts as though he is the embodiment of science. But just like scientific institutions across the country, deGrasse Tyson’s own scientific views have been corrupted by radical gender ideology perpetuated by the left.
It’s also worth noting the hypocrisy in deGrasse Tyson’s decision to continuously question why people care so much about the issue of transgenderism. A real scientist would know that the search for truth is at the forefront of the scientific process. Truth matters and a society that ignores basic biological realities will never be able to function properly.
