California has always had competitors when it comes to leftist indoctrination in schools… but from my perspective, Illinois just took over spot #1 on the crazy train.
The Illinois State Board of Education has approved an education plan that codifies a leftist curriculum into law. On February 16, the state legislature will vote on this new rule, called the “Culturally Responsive Teaching and Leading Standards.”
Simply put, what you need to know is this–it would be mandated by law to shove leftist indoctrination down the throats of children. The rule codifies teachers must “embrace and encourage progressive viewpoints and perspectives” and institute “action civics” programs in their classroom (field trips to protest or lobby state government officials on behalf of leftist causes like gun control). Teachers will also be required to “assess how their biases…affect…how they access tools to mitigate their behavior (racism, sexism, homophobia, unearned privilege, Eurocentrism, etc.)”
What happens should a teacher refuse to implement this insanity, you might ask? Great question! In classic leftist style, disagreement is not tolerated. Teachers who refuse to go down this indoctrination path will be subject to disciplinary hearings and potentially seeing their license to teach all-out revoked.
As leftism continues to weave its way into every classroom in America, calls for educational reform are popping up in states nationwide, and education groups call for national implementation of similar standards to this one. I believe our kids deserve better than politically-motivated indoctrination–they deserve an education that challenges every perspective, encourages thinking outside of the box, and is mostly politically neutral.
