Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons is criticizing New York for issuing commercial driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, including some licenses that reportedly do not contain a person’s full name.

“It’s really scary,” Lyons told Fox News over the weekend. “To see that on a driver’s license issued by the state, ‘No Name Given.” And the worst part, there’s a REAL ID star right up there in the corner.”

“I don’t know about you all, but it was like going through a security clearance for me to get my REAL ID.”

Lyons’ comments came after a truck driver, identified as Anmol Anmol, was arrested in Oklahoma last month after being found with a New York commercial driver’s license that only had his last name and simply “No Name Given” in the spaces for his first and middle name. Anmol was stopped during a routine inspection at a truck scale, where authorities discovered the license. Federal agents determined that Anmol had entered the United States illegally under the Biden administration in 2023.

“I can’t believe we are giving illegal aliens, who have no right to be here, these driver’s licenses,” Lyons said.

It remains unclear how Anmol obtained the ID, as New York’s Department of Motor Vehicles typically requires documents to verify a person’s identity, such as a Social Security number and proof of residency.

“We have these sanctuary states that want to go ahead and try to just make it welcoming to these people who we don’t even know who they are,” Lyons continued. “Again, these are CDL licenses. These people are transporting hazardous goods, materials at times. And in some cases, we don’t know exactly what they are doing.”

“Look how many American citizens have lost their lives because of individuals like that, who have these driver’s licenses,” he noted.

Lyons’ remarks follow another incident in August involving an Indian national who made a U-turn in an 18-wheeler on a Florida highway, killing three Haitian migrants. The driver had obtained a license and work permit in California, but later failed both an English proficiency test and a highway sign exam.

“Homeland Security Investigations has dedicated to working with the state police departments and our own federal agencies to make sure we get these IDs off the street,” Lyons said.
