President Biden is up to his same old tricks again. On February 3rd, he held a “Gun Violence Strategies Partnership Meeting” where he used the killings of two NYPD officers the week prior to fuel his gun control agenda in the most backward way.
It started with President Biden giving quick condolences to officers Mora and Rivera and their families for the events on January 25th in New York, stating that the suspect had a stolen Glock with 40 rounds. He repeats “40 rounds” and claims that it is a weapon of war.
For the rest of the meeting, he focuses on the need to ban “ghost guns” and crack down on “rogue gun dealers.” I use quotations because they’re made-up terms. According to the Commander in Chief, these are just a few efforts to reduce gun violence.
Those are just the cliff notes. You can watch the meeting HERE.
But let’s question a few things, shall we?
Is it gun violence or violent crime?
The President talks a lot about increased gun violence and how he wants to combat it. But, according to the Department of Justice’s National Crime Survey, less than 8% of violent crimes, including aggravated assault, rape, and murder, involved a firearm. But America has a gun violence issue?
What defines a “weapon of war?” Because the magazine holds 40 rounds?
The magazine is a piece of equipment that holds all of the ammunition inside a semi-automatic handgun. If you buy the gun this suspect had (Glock 45), the magazine capacity is 17 rounds, but you’re able to purchase magazines that hold more. Hence, 40 rounds. Personally, I don’t carry around a 40 round magazine because it’s bulky and near impossible to conceal, but regardless it’s our 2nd Amendment right to have firearms with unrestricted capacities.
How do ghost guns and rogue gun dealers have anything to do with the murders in New York and all over the country?
Have you seen a definition of a ghost gun OR what a rogue gun dealer is? Is this because the shooting in New York had a stolen Glock? I’ll go in depth on what these two terms really mean in a separate blog, but President Biden makes it sound like a gun shop secretly gave this dude a gun when he wasn’t legally able to own one.
Two plus two does not equal 56, just as banning “ghost guns” and cracking down on “rogue gun dealers” does not solve the issue of a criminal stealing a gun or that our police officers are being murdered on the streets.
What do you think a ghost gun or rogue gun dealer is?
