Recently, the TPUSA chapter at High Point University had planned an event on campus with Gabriel Nadales to discuss Critical Race Theory. Due to the lack of official recognition of the chapter from the university, the event was cancelled and the students were told they’d be able to host the same event in the future so long as the proper procedures were followed. Although, the club has hosted meetings in the past despite being in a ‘temporary status,’ this event specifically was targeted and not allowed to take place.

The Black Student Union identified the TPUSA chapter and the Gabriel Nadales event as ‘racist’ and threatened to disrupt the event while demanding the University Administration stop the event from happening. They targeted the chapter online with a smear campaign and baselessly accused the TPUSA chapter of promoting racism on campus by bringing a former ANTIFA now Conservative activist to speak. This is some of the social media used to spread propaganda against the chapter online:

In response to the insanity on campus, TPUSA staff member Coleman Theodore shared, “Our chapter exists on campus to promote conservative issues and promote a dialogue between different sides of the political spectrum. The Black Student Union at High Point University never reached out to us to ask about the event and what it was about. Instead, they spread a lie that we were promoting racism and we were bringing a speaker on campus that supports racism.”

High Point University President, Nido Qubein, defended the TPUSA student activists saying it’s “So sad that some students quickly went to social media with accusations and statements that are uncivil, disrespectful, or even threatening. We are better than that. We are the HPU family. We must do better.”

At this time the event is still cancelled and the TPUSA chapter is working to obtain “official chapter recognition” in order to host Gabriel Nadales.

We stand with you, TPUSA at High Point University! Never stop fighting for your right to voice your opinion.
