I love science. I always have, and before I entered the crazy, fast-paced world of politics, I was a pre-med student hoping to become a trauma surgeon. I got my undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University, and then my master’s in Biomedical Sciences Policy and Advocacy and Georgetown. I’ll tell you what–learning about the law and policy of global pandemics in the middle of COVID-19 was a fantastic experience!

As a scientist, I am honestly baffled at how little science is being used to make COVID-19 policy decisions, especially in lockdowns. Fearing a backlash, many in the scientific community have not pushed back against these county or statewide lockdowns for the past eight months, but some finally are!

Dr. Drew Pinsky, an addiction specialist, was recently interviewed by Fox News, discussing the lack of science in COVID lockdowns. The truth is, we’ve never done this before from a scientific perspective because there is no scientific data or evidence to confirm the effectivity of a lockdown. One thing is certain–many things that we do scientifically know aren’t being followed because of the hysteria of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of which is an uptick in mental health disorders and substance abuse.

I would highly suggest listening to this compelling interview and getting a different perspective on the COVID-19 pandemic than most are willing to share. You can watch all of Dr. Pinsky’s interview here:
