History Professor at California State-Chico, Dr. Shawn Schwaller, may be known by his liberal students for teaching very important topics such as “Chicanx” and “Latinx” studies, but conservatives know him as the professor who actively promotes that former President Trump’s supporters are a part of a “white, patriarchal” America, conservatives and Christians are “violent” and “homophobic,” and guns are a “key component of toxic masculinity.” In his campaign operative to turn part of Northern California into the 51st state, he goes so far as to say that Christians deserve the violence inflicted upon them by ANTIFA.
Schwaller also serves on the Ethnic Studies Committee, making him the person in charge of determining which courses fulfill California’s ethnic studies requirements at the university. In 2020, the Governor of California declared that each student needs to complete one ethnic studies or social justice course in order to graduate. This decision has been implemented for 23 campuses throughout the state and affected nearly 500,000 students.
Then in 2021, ANOTHER requirement was created for students to graduate. Now, students have to complete a course about “land acknowledgment” and lessons on “decolonizing students from capitalism, the patriarchy, and settler colonialism.”
Dr. Schwaller has publically stated that it is a “necessity for students to learn how our nation was founded on genocide and the constitution enshrined slavery.”
