A conservative professor at the University of Mississippi has been falsely accused of racism on campus and had his courses cancelled for the Spring 2022 semester.

Professor Mark Burson from The University of Mississippi’s School of Journalism was informed by the University’s Office of Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance (EORC) that an anonymous group of students reported the phrase “China Virus” was used in Burson’s courses in reference to COVID-19. The Director of the EORC, Kimberly Devries, informed Burson the use of such a phrase does not specifically violate University policy, but “China Flu” is considered a racist slur on campus.

Providing no concrete evidence of Burson using either phrase in his classes, the EORC took action to remove Burson from the roster for all Spring 2022 graduate classes and is still determining if he will be eligible to teach undergraduate courses the following school year.

In addition to his position as a Professor in the School of Journalism, Burson is also the faculty advisor for TPUSA’s chapter on campus, and students in the chapter are demanding he is cleared of all false accusations immediately.
