In Westminster, California, a series of street signs specifically honoring the late Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk through their namesake are being installed throughout the city.
Mayor Charlie Nguyen commented on the signs – the first of which was installed Wednesday – and expressed enthusiasm for them on Facebook.
“As Mayor, I am proud that Westminster, CA is the first city in the country to dedicate an official Charlie Kirk Way. We honor Charlie for his faith, his love of country and his devotion to his amazing family. We are inspired by @mrserikakirk and all she’s done to carry on Charlie’s work,” the mayor wrote.
According to CBS News, “The signs, six in total, are not replacing All American Way signs, but are to sit alongside them, so as not to cause any disruption to business and property owners in the area.”
Though the signs were approved by a majority vote of 4 – 1 in city council, CBS further reports that the street signs are receiving pushback from local politicians. Vice Mayor Carlos Manzo is against the sign’s installment, and considers it to be ‘exploiting a tragedy for political gain.’”
Similar memorials have been established in honor of Charlie Kirk since his passing, including highways and other roads throughout the US.
