Social media is on fire this week with the news that Superman will now be gay! Well, not exactly Superman, but the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Well, not exactly gay, but “bisexual.” Whatever. I’m gay and have never made any kind of secret of that. When I first read this news I wasn’t excited. I didn’t find it “stunning and brave,” my first thought was…REALLY?

First of all, I’m not a fan of retconning – basically changing the entire origins of beloved characters in order to fit the woke agenda of the current moment. I think it’s simple, lazy, and BORING. This is why I wasn’t thrilled or excited by the thought of gay Superman or Superson or whatever.

I’m a traditionalist. I think that beloved characters should stay exactly as they are and NEW heroes should be created that better represent the world we live in today. Superman shouldn’t be gay. James Bond shouldn’t be Black. Blade shouldn’t be White.

Superman being gay is just the latest example of the woke agenda making its way into absolutely EVERYTHING – and I think it speaks to a certain weakness that exists within the LGBT community today. Gays and lesbians in America have pretty much achieved hard-won equality in American society. We can serve in the military, be married, and live the American dream. But there is a certain aspect of LGBTs that are totally owned by the Left that see themselves as perpetual victims, and the only way out of that victimhood is for us to “see” ourselves EVERYWHERE. That’s a flawed hypothesis.

Mind you, after decades of African-American influence in every aspect of American pop culture, entertainment, and politics, the community still lags behind on fundamental levels. That speaks not to the need to work from the outside in – but the inside out.

A gay Superman is not going to stop the high rates of LGBT suicide, drug use, STDs, rampant sex, or any of the other hard truths this pandering is supposed to cover up. A gay Superman is here, but as long as the LGBT community continues to look to empty symbols and pandering like this in order to feel “complete,” its demons will remain unvanquished.
