It seems like the show that everyone is loving right now is Bridgerton on Netflix, so I did a little research and came up with a list of other shows you should check out if social clique/historical period shows are your style.
1. Downton Abbey
The popular series takes place between 1912-1926 and showcases the fictional Crawley family and their servants.
2. Pride and Prejudice
Based on the novel by Jane Austen, Elizabeth Bennet is getting pressure from he parents to marry (who can relate) and is introduced to Mr. Darcy. A love story ensues.
3. Vanity Fair
No, it’s not about the magazine. This is another historical drama miniseries also based on a novel. The show follows poor Becky Sharp as she attempts to climb the social ladder of English society in the years following the defeat of Napoleon.
4. Outlander
A married former World War II nurse from 1945 finds herself suddenly transported back to Scotland in 1743. She encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser and lands in the middle of the Jacobite risings.
5. The Crown
Follows the entire royal family, political rivalries and Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.
6. The Tudors
A series set in 16th-century England focusing on the early years of King Henry VIII’s almost 40-year reign (1509-1547) in England. The show focuses on the drama surrounding Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn and other important relationships that surrounded him.
7. The White Queen
The miniseries takes place during the Wars of the Roses and showcases the story of the women involved in the taxing conflict for the throne of England. It begins in 1464 where the nation has been at war for nine years fighting over who is the rightful king as two sides of the same family, the House of York and the House of Lancaster, contest the throne. The story follows three women, Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville, who scheme in their attempt to gain power.
8. Gossip Girl
The series follows a group of wealthy-elite High school students attending an exclusive prep school on the Upper East Side. There’s an anonymous blogger named Gossip Girl spills everyone’s secrets and drama. Eventually throughout the show they graduate high school, and GG still follows them as they attend college and/or start their careers. No one knows who Gossip Girl is but she knows them.
9. The Great
This one is a comedy drama that’s loosely based on Catherine The Great, the longest-reigning female ruler in Russia’s history.
