San Francisco Allocates $1.7 Million for a Single Public Restroom

Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco California

Home of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco was a once beautiful city on the bay. Now, the city has skyrocketing crime, uncontrollable homelessness and staggering drug use. Stories of residents defecating on public streets have become mainstream, as this sort of thing now occurs on a daily basis. Never fear, San Francisco’s fearless leaders have a plan to turn things around: they are planning to build a single public toilet that will cost $1.7 million and won’t be completed until 2025.

“The city explains that construction costs have risen in the last two years due to the pandemic, inflation and the global supply chain issues, according to the city’s statement.”

“The San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department admits the price tag for the single restroom is attention-grabbing, but officials promise the reason behind the estimate is ‘more nuanced and less sensational.'”

Los Angeles Times

If you are scratching your head in amazement — you should be. This is a crappy deal for San Francisco residents. First of all, it is being funded by their hard-earned tax dollars. Second, why does ONE toilet cost so much? The answer is simple: government overspending, mismanagement, unnecessary “red tape,” incompetence, and all of those very same factors leading to record-high inflation that raises the cost of absolutely everything.

This is exactly why thousands of people are running from the leftist hellscape known as California at an alarming rate, it just isn’t feasible to call the state home anymore — unless you happen to be a Hollywood star or a Big Tech billionaire.

With the city on the brink of collapse, you might think leaders would use $1.7 million to fund projects benefiting residents, or opt to cut government spending to reduce the burden of inflation. But I guess this whole situation begs the question: what can you get for this staggering price tag? Here are a few things that you could do with $1.7 million dollars:

  • A mansion in Hawaii: Overlooking the Hilo Harbor in Hawaii’s you can buy  this five-bedroom, six-bathroom home for about $1.5 million.
  • A luxury sports-car: If you negotiate a bit, you can get a 1/77 exclusive Aston Martin fitted with a 7.3-liter V12 engine that churns out 750-horsepower and goes 0-60mph time of 3.5 seconds, with a top speed over 220mph! This incredible machine costs $1.8 million.
  • You could attend Harvard for 22 years: Prestigious Harvard University costs about $75,000 a year. If you do the math on that one, you can cover over 22 years of fullly paid tuition at this Ivy League University.

There are of course a number of other productive things that could be done with $1.7 million, but not in San Francisco. In this city, you get a single public restroom. Wasteful government hacks are truly excellent at spending your tax-dollars, and they aren’t even slightly ashamed of it.
