EPA Pursues Deregulation of Biden-Era Environmental Policies

Lee Zeldin, Administrator for the EPA

Lee Zeldin expressed he aims to deregulate as much as possible as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and put an end to the Green New Deal (which he calls the Green New Scam).

In an opinion piece written by Zeldin for the Wall Street Journal, the EPA head discussed his direction for the country’s use of resources and how environmental regulation has hindered this in the past.

“We are driving a dagger through the heart of climate-change religion and ushering in America’s Golden Age,” he wrote.

Zeldin claims “the cost of living for American families will decrease” with environmental deregulation. According to Zeldin, this will “roll back trillions of dollars in regulatory costs and hidden taxes.” US manufacturing will also be “reignited” and help produce benefits for Americans nationwide.

The EPA also announced an end to the Electric Vehicle Mandate under the guidance President Trump. The EVM cost $700 million in regulatory and compensatory costs. This prior policy aimed to prouce a “nearly 50% reduction in projected fleet average [greenhouse gas] emissions levels for light-duty vehicles and 44% reductions for medium-duty vehicles.”

On Wednesday the EPA announced it will soon revisit Biden-era regulations on soot and greenhouse emissions coming from coal power plants. Zeldin hopes to maintain clean air quality amid the process of deregulation:

“All Americans deserve to breathe clean air while pursuing the American dream. Under President Trump, we will ensure air quality standards for particulate matter are protective of human health and the environment while we unleash the Golden Age of American prosperity.”

Zeldin further maintained the importance of protecting the environment while still being productive and not putting any hindrance on production:

“This isn’t about abandoning environmental protection—it’s about achieving it through innovation and not strangulation.”

“Turning Point USA’s commitment to the fight for freedom on campus is more important now than ever.”

- Senator Marco Rubio, Florida
