Months after Roe was Struck Down, Protesters Continue to Illegally Gather Outside Supreme Court Justices’ Homes

Protestors continue to illegally gather outside of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s home, disturbing the peace and safety of her family, shouting “illegitimate and unfit.” The mob of people paraded around Barrett’s neighborhood, banging on drums, while carrying pride and transgender flags.

When the draft Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision (which overturned Roe v. Wade) was initially leaked to Politico, protests erupted nation-wide. Abortion advocates illegally swarmed outside homes of Supreme Court Justices where their families live, seemingly attempting to harass and intimidate Judges into changing their final vote.

“Whoever, with the intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer, in the discharge of his duty, pickets or parades in or near a building housing a court of the United States, or in or near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer, or with such intent uses any sound-truck or similar device or resorts to any other demonstration in or near any such building or residence, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.”

18 U.S. Code § 1507

Though federal law, as well as state laws, clearly prohibit protests outside of the personal homes of justices, federal law enforcement institutions, such as the FBI or DOJ, have refrained from taking action to investigate the aggravated demonstrations or make arrests. For context, the FBI was more than willing to immediately launch an investigation into the ominous garage door pull found by Bubba Wallace.

The FBI and DOJ have also neglected to investigate the numerous attacks on crisis pregnancy centers nationwide, which has led to inflamed rhetoric from popular political figures, attacking the often non-profit organizations which provide life-saving care to women in need. Meanwhile, the FBI recently raided the home of well-known, Catholic, pro-life activist Mark Houck, for a case that had already been thrown out by civil court.

The federal government’s agencies and mainstream media outlets have also been silent about Joan Jacobson, the 84-year old woman who was shot at while raising awareness for pro-life issues in her community. Media outlets and law enforcement agencies immediately jumped into action however when the Speaker of the House’s husband, Paul Pelosi, was assaulted in his California home last week, and more so, were all too eager to place the blame are “far-right extremism.”

Political violence and intimidation does unfortunately exist in our country. However, our federal institutions seem to be unfairly biased in their response to these incidents. While it should always be condemned regardless of which “side” initiated it, Americans should also be able to trust their federal agencies to investigate and arrest culprits fairly. This becomes a big ask of our institutions when abortion advocates have for months been permitted to threaten the safety of Supreme Court Justices and their families, outside of their homes.

For months, conservatives have been calling upon Attorney General Merrick Garland, head of the DOJ, to condemn these protests and put an end to the aggressive unrest. This however has proved fruitless, and protestors who also participated in BLM riots and defund police movements, continue to gather outside their homes, unhindered by law enforcement.
