Farmington High School on Twitter

One of the three assistant principals at Farmington High School in Minnesota sent out an email to their counterparts, including the school’s principal, letting them know that there is a situation providing them with a great opportunity to use their “straight, white privilege to reassure students.”

The email was sent regarding negative responses staff received for the school’s gender-neutral language, specifically changing the traditional “homecoming king and queen” to “homecoming royalty.”

“This would be a great time to use your straight, white, privilege to reassure and support students and staff in doing what they believe is right for our school community.”

After the email was leaked, nearly 100 students participated in a school-wide walk out in protest of the inflammatory rhetoric used by Wagner. In statements obtained by Fox News, multiple parents expressed their outrage over the administrator’s comments, and the blatant prejudice present.

“As a parent, it’s offensive and appalling to see that behind closed doors they feel as though they can use certain discriminatory verbiage to push an agenda that parents, students and the community are unaware of.”

Additionally, Laura Wagner the Assistant Principal, joined more than “160 administrators throughout Minnesota who have signed a pledge to ‘decenter whiteness’ in their curriculum” according to the Daily Mail. This is yet another example of an educator who is more focused on virtue-signaling than the well-being of the student body, and we wonder why national scores and standards are in free-fall.

The school has multiple policies that prohibit conduct or statements that are directed at a person’s race, however no action seems to have been taken on behalf of administrators to apply these policies equally, for all races.

“‘Harassment’ prohibited by this policy consists of physical or verbal conduct, including, but not limited to, electronic communication relating to an individual’s or group of individual’s race, color, creed/religion . . .”

Discrimination or assumptions made on the basis of race have no place within a school, regardless of whether the situation is concerning students or faculty. Hopefully parents around the country will continue to hold educators and school board members accountable for their actions, because that is how we revive the public school system. We need to set high standards, and enforce them, for the sake of the generations of children to come.
