It Pays to Live in California: Stimulus Checks up to $1,050 per Family are Underway
On Sunday, June 26th, California Governor Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers agreed on the 2022-23 state budget that allocates $17 billion to an “inflation relief” package.
The governor’s office made the following statement in a press release:
“Twenty-three million Californians will benefit from direct payments of up to $1,050. The package will also include a suspension of the state sales tax on diesel, and additional funds to help people pay their rent and utility bills.”
CBS News explains how the stimulus money will be divided:
- Single taxpayers who earn less than $75,000 a year and couples who file jointly and make less than $150,000 a year will receive $350 per taxpayer.
- Taxpayers with dependents will receive an extra $350.”
This announcement follows the states skyrocketing prices, from gas to groceries, as well as rent and utility payments. California ranks most expensive state in terms of gas, where, according to AAA, the state average is $6.30 per gallon, as opposed to the national average of $4.86 per gallon.
The press release continues by restating California’s commitment to allowing women to obtain an abortion within the state, “And in the wake of Friday’s stunning Supreme Court decision, the state is reaffirming its commitment to defending reproductive rights, providing more than $200 million in additional funding for reproductive health care services.”
Some people have openly criticized the 2020 stimulus/Covid-19 relief package, that totaled $4.9 trillion, and claim that this massive government spending package is directly to blame for the rampant inflation the country has experienced over the past two years.
Senator Rand Paul, being one of these people, released a report in January of this year outlining the ways in which the stimulus payments have harmed our economy and contributed to the rising prices nation-wide.
Stimulus payments are expected to be delivered to Californians by late October ’22 and will be distributed via debit card or direct deposit. This is a sign to conservatives still in the state to move out of California before things get even more expensive.
