Elon Musk Expresses Concern about Underpopulation — Pays for Tesla Employee Abortions
Elon Musk gained massive popularity in the last few years for his views on free speech, constantly trolling the Twitter executives, and for being one of the only sane, somewhat reasonable “elites” left. But is his money always where his mouth is?
Elon pinned this Tweet to his profile that links to a Washington Street Journal graph explaining the brith rate decline in the United States since the late 1950’s. As the graph depicts, we are currently well below the “replacement level” needed keep the population the same from generation to generation, without including migration.
Musk wrote in a Tweet, “A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”
“Mark my words, they are sadly true,” Musk commented on his post. But if he is doing his “best” to mitigate the crisis we are currently in, why did Tesla pledge to pay for employees travel to other states to get abortions?
Before the decision on Roe was released, Tesla moved its headquarters from California to Texas, for obvious financial incentives. The state, however, is avidly pro-life.
In fact, Texas’ Attorney General, Ken Paxton, just received a big win from the Supreme Court of Texas. He claims that “pre-Roe statutes are good law” and though litigation continues, abortion will remain entirely illegal in the state for the time being.
In an interview, AG Ken Paxton said he is looking into possibly fining Texas companies $100,000 or more if they subsidize an employee’s travel to obtain an abortion out-of-state.
Elon Musk is just one of the many executives of multimillion dollar companies that have decided travel fees and abortion procedures are less expensive than maternity leave and healthcare coverage for dependents.
Many people might’ve expected this from him, if the conservative movement didn’t immediately glorify the first person to display sound judgment or reason in one specific situation.
Let’s try to hold Elon accountable for this contradiction in the future, cuteservatives.
