DOD to Cover Travel Costs For Employees Seeking Out-Of-State Abortions

The Department of Defense announced they will be covering the travel costs and three weeks of leave for employees seeking an out-of-state abortion. The full statement is below:
“The Defense Department dropped a trio of new policies Thursday aimed at closing some of the gaps that the overturn of Roe v. Wade opened up in service members’ ability to access reproductive health care.
They include fully paid travel expenses for troops who have to go out of state to obtain an abortion and up to three weeks of leave, including to accompany a dependent or spouse, whether it’s for an abortion or a fertility treatment. The new regulations also give service members until 20 weeks to notify commanders of a pregnancy.”

Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, which stuck down Roe v. Wade, numerous corporations announced their intention to incorporate out-of-state travel costs for abortions into their healthcare systems. Of course a profit driven company would do this: maternal leave, health insurance for dependents, and scheduling changes for mothers with children. These all take a toll on a company’s profits.
What is inexplicable, is the federal government’s decision to provide similar incentives to employees. Rather than creating longer maternity leave policies, improving healthcare benefits, supporting employees who want to adopt children, or increasing paid time off for working mothers, the DOD would rather mothers kill their children before they can become “burdensome.”
The DOD’s policy could also be seen as an abuse of power as it overrides state policy created by the people’s elected representatives in that area.
Society tells women of the workforce that it’s empowering, bold, and even pro-women, for companies and government institutions to finance their family’s destruction. In reality, the employer is saving money, and they get to keep an experienced employee all to themselves.
It looks like Live Action, a leading pro-life organization, agrees. Their response was clear: “incentivizing murder isn’t compassionate, it’s predatory.”
