‘BLM at School’ Teaching Resources Blames ‘Israeli Settler Colonialism’ for Ongoing Middle Eastern Conflict

‘Black Lives Matter (BLM) at School’ created resources for K-12 educators insisting that the “loss of Palestinian and Israeli lives is the direct result of decades of Israeli settler colonialism.”
BLM at School, a national organization endorsed by the largest teacher’s unions in the country such as the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), shared the resources on October 17 which openly support the Palestinian efforts to “decolonize.”
“BLM@School wants to be clear in our recognition that this unfolding loss of Palestinian and Israeli lives is the direct result of decades of Israeli settler colonialism, land dispossession, occupation, blockade, apartheid, and attempted genocide of millions of Palestinians. Palestinians are reminding us that decolonization is not a metaphor or abstraction, but requires real, daily struggle,” the organization wrote.
BLM at Schools also said that educators must teach “Palestinian existence, resistance, culture, global contribution, and the ongoing struggle to realize a free Palestine.” Adding, “It also must directly name the ways that U.S. imperialism has fueled and supported apartheid and war crimes. Educators need resources, support, and protection that honor the enduring struggle for realizing Palestinian justice.”

Resources provided by the radically progressive organization include, “Decolonize Palestine,” which links to a website claiming that Israel “rainbow washes” its appearance on a global stage by supporting things such as environmentalism, female empowerment, humanitarianism, and LGBTQ+ rights.
“Bluewashing refers to when a state or organization uses humanitarian aid campaigns to deflect attention from its harmful practices,” the propaganda website claims.
Additionally, the BLM at School resources link to articles praising the highly contested Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement which seeks to economically coerce Israel into changing its national policies regarding Palestine. Educators are encouraged to teach their students about the movement and that they should support its implementation.
BLM at School organizes the annual “Week of Action” nationally which emboldens K-12 students to take part in the week-long protest to support LGBTQ+ rights and the national BLM movement, which is a Marxist organization.
BLM at School also encourages students to sign the “Year of Purpose” pledge, vowing to support the group’s 13 guiding principles, including “diversity,” “black villages,” “queer affirming,” “trans-affirming,” “restorative justice,” “globalism” and more.

“We disrupt the narrow Western prescribed nuclear family structure expectation. We support each other as extended families and villages that collectively care for one another, especially ‘our’ children. We believe that radical care belongs in the public sphere,” the organization shared. The group is also LGBTQ+ affirming, explaining, “When we gather, we do so with the intention of freeing ourselves from the tight grip of cis-heteropatriarchal assumptions.”
Protests have taken place across the U.S. following Palestinian terror organization Hamas’ invasion of Israel earlier this month, which left 1,400 people dead, including 32 Americans, and 3,500 injured. Progressive groups such as BLM have shared their support for a “free Palestine,” while college students at several prestigious universities have participated in protests and “die-ins” in support of “decolonization.”
Following the attack on Israel, a BLM chapter in Chicago posted an image depicting a paraglider carrying a Palestinian flag with a caption reading, “I Stand With Palestine.” After receiving widespread criticism, the group deleted the post, stating that they were not “proud of” the message, but that they “stand with Palestine & the people who will do what they must to live free.”
