UCLA Faculty Member Claims He Can “No Longer Associate” With Family Members Who Voted For President Trump
A faculty member at UCLA is yet another example that proves the “tolerant left” is not-so-tolerant.
Mr. Jonathan Perkins is the Director of Race and Equity for the Office of Race, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of California – Los Angeles. He describes his position at UCLA as a “full-time professional practitioner of anti-racism.”
Perkins recently tweeted about the hospitalization of Justice Clarence Thomas and expressed his hope that Justice Thomas dies in the hospital. He referred to the justice as “Uncle Thomas,” a reference to the Uncle Tom slur used to describe black people who “sell out” their race to white people. Perkins even attacked Justice Thomas’ wife by accusing her of treason.
This isn’t the first time Perkins has made hateful comments about people who have a different ideology than him. Prior to the 2020 election, Perkins wrote an article on his personal blog demanding to know what members of his family plan on voting to reelect President Trump. He explained that he will no longer have a relationship with family members who do so.
“If you, or any of your immediate family (spouses, children, children-in-law) are planning to vote for [Former President] Donald Trump on November 3, I ask that you please contact me to discuss before that date. I hope that I never again have the unfortunate experience of discovering that someone in my own family has voted for a president who continues to incite white supremacist violence against Black people, violence and hate against the LGBTQ+ community, hatred and misogyny against women, and violent racist xenophobia against brown immigrants.
If, once again, we affected family members are forced to cope with this trauma, I regret that I, personally, will no longer be able to associate with the family member/voter in question. I will not attend family events where that member is present and will call out said family loudly whenever we interact from now on. I will no longer ignore the fact that my family members voted for all these things, against my humanity.“
Mr. Perkins’ race-baiting antics date back to his college years. Taking a page out of Jussie Smollett’s book, he pretended to be the victim of a hate crime. As a student of the University of Virginia, Perkins alleged that he was racially profiled, mocked, and frisked by two police officers. He later admitted that the events did not occur.
Perkins is the perfect example of the declining civil discourse in this country. There are those on the left who can’t stand the idea of people holding views that oppose radical, leftist ideology. They are willing to alienate family members, create hoaxes, and call for the deaths of the public leaders they despise. Not only is this type of rhetoric now tolerated in society, but it is also encouraged. It is appalling and not an example of the “inclusion” they claim to be fighting for.
The left is all about inclusion and tolerance until it applies to those they disagree with.
