Glens Falls Board of Education Silenced Me and Walked Out

The Glens Falls Board of Education violated my First Amendment rights as I attempted to advocate for students’ protection against sexually explicit content. I was compelled to explain why vulgar books must be removed from school grounds, but my speech was cut off.

I discovered that novels like “Gender Queer,” “All Boys Aren’t Blue,” and “The Kite Runner” are available to young students in the Glens Falls High School public library. When I read aloud from “Gender Queer” at the May 12, 2025, school board meeting, district leaders silenced me and walked out of the room.

Glens Falls City School District has a history of silencing dissenting voices and refusing to listen to opinions they disagree with.

I met with students who tried establishing a Turning Point USA Chapter at Glens Falls High School. They said administrators wouldn’t allow club members to advertise events on campus, and the students were effectively banned from gathering anywhere on school grounds. This behavior is unacceptable from public servants who swear an oath to the United States Constitution.

The radical left will always promote “diversity” in terms of skin color and physical attributes, but they reject any diversity of thought. If we truly want diversity, we have to uphold the First Amendment. Community leaders on all levels of society must be willing to listen to criticism and differing viewpoints.

Glens Falls Board of Education believes giving students access to vulgar books is okay, yet they have a viral reaction when someone reads those filthy words back to them. If I can’t read it aloud in a board meeting, why should children have access to it at school?

All sexually explicit novels must be removed from the Glens Falls High School library. These books have no educational value and pollute the minds of our youth. The district also owes an apology to every student they have silenced. According to my understanding of the 1984 Equal Access Act, the Turning Point USA Chapter should be permitted to meet on school grounds.

Ultimately, this is not about “equity” but equality. Regardless of students’ or citizens’ political or religious beliefs, economic background, or ethnicity, everyone deserves to be respected and their voices heard. Board members like those in the Glens Falls City School District are doing a disservice to their community.

Thank you, Dr. Bob!
