Top Med Schools Promote Leftist Views, “Weight Inclusivity”

A new report by the watchdog group Free Speech First claims that medical schools across the country are prioritizing radical left-wing beliefs on race, gender, and obesity over proper medical care for patients.

The report, released Thursday, examined 54 public medical schools in the United States and documented how diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives have become embedded in medical education.

“This ideological conformity is required not only of students but also of faculty, who are often tasked with serving as enforcers of these mandates,” the report, first obtained by National Review, stated.

According to the findings, 99 percent of the top medical schools mandate a commitment to “racial justice,” while 89 percent mandate a commitment to “gender ideology.”  Additionally, 30 percent of the schools surveyed mandate some form of “weight inclusivity” training that instructs students to avoid “fatphobia.”

At the University of Texas at Austin, medical students are taught to avoid “stigmatizing language” such as “overweight” or “obese,” and instead refer to patients as “people with larger size.” The University of Vermont claims that “weight is not an important indicator of health.”

Meanwhile, the University of Connecticut requires students to pledge to “work actively to identify and mitigate my own biases” and “specifically work to dismantle policies that perpetuate inequities, exclusion, discrimination, and racism.”

The University of Arizona requires students to learn about transgender medicine and be told that gender transitioning in children is “normal,” beginning with social changes and “progressing to puberty-suppressing medications.”

Some institutions also enforce harassment policies that penalize “misgendering.” Oregon Health and Science University, for example, states that students who violate such rules may face disciplinary action.

The report also cited real-life consequences for medical professionals and students who challenge these policies. Dr. Allan M. Josephson of the University of Louisville was terminated after criticizing transgender procedures for children. Keiran Bhattacharya, a former medical student at the University of Virginia, was banned from campus after questioning a 2018 presentation on microaggressions. Bhattacharya was labeled as “antagonistic” by the university and was subjected to disciplinary action.

“If this continues, I’m horrified we’ll get doctors who will shove kids into gender chaos, favor race over health, and lie to obese patients, endangering us all for a deranged fringe,” said Jared Gould, a research fellow for Free Speech First, according to National Review.

“I’m convinced that the work by Turning Point USA and Charlie Kirk will win back the future of America.”
