Tennessee Passes Constitutional Carry
This is incredible news for Second Amendment rights!
Last week, Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee signed the bill for permitless carry, also known as the constitutional carry bill. The Tennessee House of Representatives passed the bill, moving it on up to the Governor who ensured the law will go into effect July 1, 2021.
This bill has been a top priority for Governor Lee, although it has received backlash from numerous groups. That opposition is one reason why he felt like it was essential to have this passed.
The permitless carry bill will allow military members 18 to 20 years of age and adults 20 years and older to carry open or concealed handguns without a permit. Importantly, the current laws require gun owners to take a training course before carrying – something a majority of us can agree with on both sides.
This bill will also increase the prosecution of firearm-related crimes, including the theft of a firearm, to be raised from a misdemeanor to a felony and require 6 months jail time.
Tennessee is now one of 19 states that have passed constitutional carry. It has already gone into effect for some states and for others, the bill will go into effect July 1 of this year.
This should be celebrated and Americans should realize how important it is for their elected officials to stand up for their right to bear arms. With so much talk and fear surrounding gun rights and the possibility of changing federal regulation, Tennessee shows the power of the state and is doing its part to protect our constitutional rights. Other states should take notes!
