Red Cross Blood Shortages in the United States

For the first time ever, the Red Cross has declared the United States is facing a blood crisis. In true narcissistic fashion, the LGBTQ+ community has decided to take advantage of America’s vulnerable state and use it as a stronghold in their fight for queer men to be allowed to donate blood, claiming it to be “discriminatory regulation.”

In the 1980s amid an HIV/AIDS epidemic, rules were put in place as protective measures to prevent the spread of the STDs such as; gay/bi men must wait at least 3 months after having sex with another man before donating blood. The LGBTQ+ community is complaining that heterosexuals get to donate blood freely, so queer people should be allowed to donate freely too! After all, the UK and Australia have already dismantled or loosened their rules on gay/bi men donating blood, so we should follow suit, right? Let’s explore the pros and cons of “inclusivity” in this regard.

According to the CDC, more than half of the United States HIV cases are found among gay and bisexual men. Williams Institute claims that about 3.6% of American men report they are gay or bisexual. When 3.6% of the population is generating more than half of all reported HIV cases, is that a concern that should be ignored for the sake of “inclusivity?” If one demographic is at high risk for a disease that can hide in your system for up to 3 months and is spread by blood, that demographic should take the proper steps to prevent the expansion of the said disease. To make this argument is potentially harmful to society and heterophobia at its finest.

Ask yourself how you can help stop this foolishness?! Put an end to the blood shortage by donating at a Red Cross location near you.
