Petition Aims to Revoke Elon Musk’s Canadian Citizenship

Over 300,000 Canadians hope to get the citizenship of Elon Musk in their country revoked for his involvement in the Trump Presidency.

Musk’s Canadian citizenship comes through his mother Maye, who was born in Saskatchewan. He lived in South Africa until 1989, when he moved to Canada.

Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus is sponsoring a petition to the Prime Minister, which addresses points in which Musk has allegedly acted against the interest of Canada.

The petition states:

“Whereas:

  • Elon Musk has engaged in activities that go against the national interest of Canada;
  • He has used his wealth and power to influence our elections;
  • He has now become a member of a foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty; and
  • The attempts of Elon Musk to attack Canadian sovereignty must be addressed.”

Ultimately, the petition calls for the Prime Minister to revoke “Elon Musk’s dual citizenship status, and revoke his Canadian passport effective immediately.”

According to the Government of Canada, citizenship may be revoked if citizens have:

  • “committed fraud
  • misrepresented yourself
  • knowingly hid information on an immigration or citizenship application.”

Whether Musk violated any of these points is questionable.

According to the BBC, the petition is symbolic and “has no legal force.”

However, petitions with over 500 signatures usually effect a government response. The closing date for the petition is June 20, 2025. It currently has 346,766 signatures.

In a now deleted response to this effort, Musk stated that “Canada is not a real country.”

“Turning Point USA is a great outlet to get involved on your campus.”
